my therapeutic approach
Beyond the Lotus pulls from many aspects of a person-center and strength-based approach. It is my belief that each individual is the best expert of their own life and experiences. Each person is incredibly unique and has their own set of strengths that they bring forth to the world. Discovering what these strengths are can truly go such a long way. Increasing self-awareness and improving self-concept are highlighted throughout sessions. The utilization of these approaches is structured around empowering patients to recognize their own strengths and empower them to take ownership of their mental well-being.
I also utilize evidence-based treatments at Beyond the Lotus such as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), family based therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), motivational interviewing (MI) and more. It is important to me that I am providing individuals with the best possible treatment to promote growth and healing based on evidence.
how do I know if a therapist is right for me?
The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important aspects of successful therapy. With this, I do find value in offering a free 15 minute consultation to all potential clients to ensure that the client and therapist feel that the relationship is a ‘good fit’. Some questions that you can ask yourself when trying to determine if a therapist is right for you.
-
Do you feel heard, validated and understood?

-
Do you feel that you can trust this person?
-
Do you like how they carry themselves?
-
Does the therapist seem empathetic to your situation?
-
Do they seem knowledgeable and competent?
-
Do you feel distracted and not able to engage?
-
Do you want to stay and talk or are you counting down the minutes until it ends?
allow yourself to be proud of all the progress that you made. especially the progress that no one else has seen
